Introduction
Blue Nun Riesling originates from Germany, within the Rhine region and the Rheinhessen subregion. The brand was originally introduced in 1923 by H. Sichel Söhne and became a defining global icon for German white wine throughout the 20th century. Today, under the ownership of F.W. Langguth Erben, the winery operates with a modern philosophy centered on crafting approachable, fruit forward wines that offer an easy to understand alternative to traditional, complex German labeling.
Wine Description
This white wine presents a pale straw yellow appearance with light greenish reflections and possesses a light to medium body. The sensory profile is highly aromatic and vibrant, opening with an intense nose of green apples, fresh peaches, and citrus fruits, layered with a delicate bouquet of white flowers and tropical pineapple. On the palate, it delivers a refreshing and lively experience where crisp flavors of lime and pear are balanced by a distinct fruit acidity and a gentle mineral touch. The finish is clean, soft, and cool, leaving a characterful impression of lingering fruit.
Varietal Composition: 100% Riesling.
Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its modern, fruit forward balance, utilizing gentle pressing and temperature controlled fermentation to maintain an elegant harmony between its racy acidity and slight residual sweetness.
ABV: Typically recorded between 9.5% and 11%.
Organic Status: While the winery prioritizes precise quality management and modern cellar standards, this specific commercial bottling is not certified organic.
Food Pairing
The harmonious balance of fruit sweetness and crisp acidity makes this Riesling an exceptionally versatile option right through a meal.
Seafood: Pairs phenomenally well with delicate fish dishes, steamed shellfish, and seafood appetizers.
Poultry: Suggested pairings include classic roast chicken served with seasonal vegetables or light poultry stews.
Cuisines: An ideal match for spicy Asian cuisine, as the residual sweetness perfectly complements heat and bold spices.
Light Fare: Matches well with pork carnitas, fresh garden salads, and mild, soft cheeses.
