Product description

This structured and 'aristocratic' red wine originates from Spain, within the prestigious Ribera del Duero D.O. appellation in the heart of Castile and León. Produced by Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro; an iconic estate founded in the early 1990s by Florentino Arzuaga, this bottling is a benchmark for high-elevation, barrel-aged Spanish Tempranillo. Sourced primarily from the historic "La Planta" estate in Quintanilla de Onésimo (situated at an altitude of nearly 900 meters) alongside select grower plots in the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero, the vines are rooted in deep chalky-limestone, clay, and alluvial gravel soils. The severe continental microclimate experiences extreme diurnal temperature swings, where scorching summer days are followed by sharp nighttime cooling, allowing Tempranillo grapes to achieve intense phenolic maturity and rich skin color while locking in a razor-sharp, mouthwatering natural acidity.

Wine Description

The Bodegas Arzuaga Crianza presents an opaque, deep black-ruby color in the glass with vivid purple and violet highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally bold, high-toned, and complex, delivering an expansive, precise, and opulent portrait of high-altitude Ribera del Duero terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of ripe black cherries, wild blackberries, and plum compote, seamlessly layered with complex underlays of sweet Madagascar vanilla, toasted cocoa, pipe tobacco, cedar, roasted coffee bean, and a subtle line of crushed limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich, and athletic, showcasing a succulent core of dark berry liqueur, dark chocolate, and savory spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its mid-palate fruit concentration. The mouthfeel is broad, velvety, and mouth-coating, framed by firm, ripe, and fine-grained tannins that glide into an extraordinarily long, dry, and savory finish accented by persistent notes of espresso, toasted oak, and dark plum skin.
