Product description
This structured and 'muscular' red wine originates from Spain, within the renowned Rioja appellation of the Rioja Alta sub-region. Founded in 1972, Bodegas LAN is named as an acronym for the three provinces spanning the Rioja region: Logroño, Álava, and Navarra. Operating under an innovative, technical winemaking philosophy led by technical director and oak-aging expert María Barúa, LAN stands as a pioneer of modern, high-expression Riojas. The "Edición Limitada" cuvée represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship from their legendary 72-hectare estate, Viña Lanciano, specifically sourced from "Pago El Rincón"—an elevated, 40-year-old bush-vine plot enclosed by a majestic meander of the Ebro River. Rooted in poor, pebble-strewn alluvial soils (cantos rodados), these heritage vines yield ultra-concentrated fruit infused with the estate's signature mineral streak.
Wine Description
The 2022 Bodegas LAN Edición Limitada presents an intense, opaque cherry-red hue in the glass with dark garnet highlights. Its sensory profile is exceptionally deep, complex, and high-toned, offering a bold, modern expression of old-vine Rioja Alta terroir. The bouquet opens with an expressive and generous display of candied black plums, wild blackberries, and cassis, seamlessly layered with rich nuances of dark cocoa, roasted espresso, pipe tobacco, clove, cinnamon, and a distinct line of chalky, iron-rich minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, warm, and remarkably broad, showcasing a dense, velvety core of dark stone fruits and dark chocolate. It is characterized by its outstanding structural power and a balanced, lively acidity that keeps the massive mid-palate extract fresh and focused. The mouthfeel is muscular yet polished, framed by firm, fine-grained tannins that carry into an extraordinarily long, harmonious finish accented by toasted wood, graphite, and sweet spice.
