Product description

Bogle Old Vine Zinfandel originates from the United States, within the California region and the Clarksburg subregion. The Bogle family wine pedigree began in the late 1960s when the family first planted twenty acres of wine grapes on their home ranch in Clarksburg, leading to the creation of their first official bottle under the Bogle name in 1978. The winery's current operational philosophy centers on crafting affordable, reliable, and expressive wines through generational commitment, drawing high quality fruit from historical vineyards where dry farmed, head trained vines have stood for decades.

Wine Description

This red wine presents a medium to deep ruby and purple red appearance in the glass and possesses a full bodied structure with a plush, velvety, and mouth filling texture. The sensory profile is highly expressive, warm, and intensely fragrant, opening with a bold nose of black currants, juniper berry, and raspberry jam, seamlessly integrated with notes of new leather, black pepper, and spicy nutmeg. On the rich, supple, and rounded palate, it delivers deep flavours of cranberries, ripe fruits, and spiced chocolate, balanced by a bright, energetic natural acidity and a firm peppery backbone. The finish is remarkably long, smooth, and toasty, leaving a persistent impression of berry jam, savory herbs, pipe tobacco, and sweet American oak.

  • Varietal Composition: Typically a classic California blend consisting of 91% Zinfandel, 7% Primitivo, 1% Petite Sirah, and 1% Merlot depending on the vintage.

  • Stylistic Notes: The wine is celebrated for its approachable, crowd pleasing fruit concentration and balanced oak complexity. To develop its signature velvety mouthfeel, the winemakers age the juice for 12 months in two year old American oak barrels, which lends a delicate sweetness and structural depth without overshadowing the fruit.

  • ABV: 14.5%.

  • Organic Status: While the estate is family operated under a verified commitment to eco-responsible farming as a certified sustainable vineyard, this commercial release is not certified organic.
