Bombay Sapphire Gin

Bombay Sapphire Gin is a globally iconic, premium London Dry-style gin produced at the historic Laverstoke Mill distillery in Hampshire, England. Created in 1987 by Master Distiller Carol Bond for International Distillers & Vintners (now under the ownership of Bacardi), the spirit was inspired by a 1761 recipe crafted by Thomas Dakin. Named after the famous 536-carat "Star of Bombay" sapphire mined in Sri Lanka, the brand revolutionized the modern gin category with its distinctive translucent blue bottle and innovative vapor-infusion production method.

Spirit Description

Unlike traditional gins that boil botanicals directly in the neutral spirit, Bombay Sapphire utilizes a specialized copper basket vapor-infusion process. Neutral grain spirit is heated in Carter-Head pot stills, and the rising vapors pass through a perforated basket containing 10 sustainably sourced botanicals: Tuscan juniper berries, Spanish lemon peel, coriander seeds, licorice root, Spanish almonds, angelica root, cubeb berries, cassia bark, grains of paradise, and orris root. Blended with pure water from the River Test, this technique yields a remarkably delicate, perfume-like, and balanced botanical profile.

• Colour: Crystal clear, bright, and transparent.

• Aroma: Delicate, fresh, and aromatic, opening with bright citrus peel, light juniper, and aromatic spice, followed by floral notes of iris, subtle coriander seed, and earthy angelica.

• Palate: Exceptionally smooth, soft, and balanced on the entry. Upfront flavors of ripe lemon zest and piney juniper soften into subtle warmth from cubeb berries, grains of paradise, sweet licorice, and rounded nuttiness.

• Body: Light-to-medium-bodied with a crisp, silky, and elegant mouthfeel.

• Finish: Crisp, dry, and refreshing, with lingering citrus brightness, delicate pine, and a light, lingering pepper warmth.

• ABV: Bottled at 47% ABV (94 Proof) in North America/travel retail; 40% ABV in select global markets.
