Product description

Wine Description

This is a blend of Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia grapes. The grapes are dried for three months in well-ventilated rooms after harvest. Following a soft pressing, the must is transferred to partially filled French oak barriques where fermentation occurs over 12 months. The wine then ages for four years in small casks called 'caratelli'.

This wine presents a vibrant golden yellow colour. The aroma is ethereal and intense, with accents of raisin and dried fig, and can include notes of honey, balsamic, leather, dark chocolate, caramel, almond, and biscuit. On the palate, it is sweet, harmonious, and velvety, described as ample and showing refinement, balance, complexity, and length. A balancing acidity prevents it from being cloying. It has an ageing capacity of more than 15 years. The winery practices are 'Certified Sustainable (EQUALITAS)'.

Food Pairing

  • Suggested pairings for this dessert wine include dry pastries, crostate (pies/tarts), biscuits, and cookies.

  • It also makes an interesting and decadent partner to sweet blue cheeses, foie gras pâté, or cannoli with ricotta and dark chocolate chips.

  • A perfect match to enhance the wine's complexity.

Vintage Quality

The 2018 vintage for Chianti Classico is generally considered a high-quality (4/5 or five-star) vintage, a return to normal levels after a less abundant 2017. The growing season was described as 'very regular' with no extreme weather events, enjoying a good summer with little rain, and a September with sunny days and considerable day-night temperature variation that allowed for phenolic and aromatic ripeness. While some parts of Chianti experienced problems with hail cutting yields, the overall good conditions meant healthy grapes that were ripe yet fresh, leading to wines characterised by harmony.
