Borgogno is a historic wine institution with roots dating back to 1761, making it one of the oldest wineries in the Langhe. The 'No Name' label was born as a protest against Italian wine bureaucracy after one of their Barolo casks was declassified by authorities; it has since become a popular 'protest wine' that combines traditional methods with a touch of creative rebellion. The estate manages 39 hectares of land and follows a winemaking philosophy that respects tradition through natural fermentation and long maturation in massive Slavonian oak barrels.

Wine Description

Borgogno 'No Name' Langhe Nebbiolo presents a ruby red colour enriched with violet hues and purple highlights. Its sensory profile is intense and multifaceted, featuring an ethereal bouquet of violets, roses, and fresh fruits layered with spicy accents and notes of aromatic herbs. On the palate, the wine is dry, full-bodied, and 'harmonious', showcasing a bold yet velvety character with smooth tannins and a generous austerity. It is characterized by a savoury freshness and a long taste experience that reflects its calcareous and clay marl terroir. This 100% Nebbiolo blend typically reaches an alcohol content (ABV) of 13.5% to 14%. The vinification involves spontaneous fermentation in large concrete tanks for about 15 days, followed by refined maturation in Slavonian oak barrels for just over two years. While the estate is organically farmed, this specific bottling is not certified organic.
