Product description
Winter Saturation is an intentional detour from conventional seasonal brewing by Calgary’s haze masters at Cabin Brewing Company. While the craft beer industry often retreats into heavy, high-gravity stouts and spiced holiday warmers as temperatures plummet, Cabin’s Fruited Hazy Pale Ale takes the contrarian approach: it fights the bleak, freezing Calgary winter by delivering a bright, tropical, and luminous burst of sunshine in a glass. As part of Cabin’s acclaimed "Saturation" line (anchored by their flagship Super Saturation), Winter Saturation builds upon an oil-rich hop base with seasonal, tart winter fruits to create an uncharacteristically vibrant and crushable cool-weather pour.
Beer Description
Winter Saturation pours a radiant, glowing peach-to-sunset ruby hue with an opaque, hazy suspension, capped by a frothy, off-white foam head that holds a steady collar and laces delicately down the glass.
Aroma: The nose is an assertive, punchy wave of bright red fruit and juicy citrus zest. It leads with dominant aromas of tart cranberry and pomegranate seed, backed by sweet top notes of fleshy Cara Cara orange, ruby red grapefruit, and tropical passion fruit. Beneath the bright fruit layer sits a gentle, doughy foundation of sweet oats and cracked wheat.
Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-light bodied with a plush, velvety, yet briskly effervescent mouthfeel. It opens with an immediate, mouth-watering splash of tangy cranberry and sweet Cara Cara orange juice, seamlessly merging with the tropical stone-fruit notes of the underlying hop bill. The mid-palate introduces a refreshing, thirst-quenching fruit acidity that keeps the beer lively, before trailing off into a soft, mildly tart, and clean finish with minimal hop bite.
Profile: It sits at an approachable, session-friendly 5.0% ABV and features a low perceived bitterness, prioritizing vibrant fruit acidity and hop saturation over lingering IBUs.
Technical Notes: Cabin constructs the grain bill with heavy additions of flaked oats and malted wheat to establish the pillowy base typical of their hazy series. The foundational dry-hop dosing uses the classic pairing of Citra and Mosaic hops to unleash layers of citrus oils and tropical aromas. The defining layer is the cold-side infusion of real fruit: cranberry, pomegranate, and Cara Cara orange. This trio introduces natural citric and malic acidity alongside berry pigmentation, transforming the classic hazy profile into a tart, fruit-integrated pale ale without driving up residual sugars.
