Originating from Italy in the famous Tuscany region, specifically within the northern subregion of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG, Canalicchio di Sopra Brunello di Montalcino 2017 represents a benchmark, classic expression of estate-grown Sangiovese. Founded in 1962 by Primo Pacenti, the historic estate is today managed by the third generation of the Ripaccioli family. The winery's philosophy combines organic vineyard practices, precise parcel-by-parcel fermentations in stainless steel and concrete, and long aging in traditional large Slavonian oak casks to produce elegant, terroir-driven Brunellos that highlight the cool, clay and marl-rich soils of the Canalicchio cru.

Wine Description

The wine presents a deep, luminous garnet red colour with bright ruby reflections in the glass. An expressive and complex bouquet opens with red cherry, wild strawberry, and crushed red plum, complemented by fragrant accents of dried rose petal, orange peel, leather, pipe tobacco, and wet stone minerality. On the palate, it is medium to full bodied, refined, and vibrant, delivering concentrated flavours of dark red berries, blood orange, and licorice, all supported by a spine of lively natural acidity. Framed by fine-grained, firm tannins and a savory, mineral-driven backbone, it concludes with a long, persistent, and elegant finish. Composed of 100% Sangiovese sourced from northern Montalcino estate vineyards, this release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2038. Stylistically, it combines northern Montalcino freshness, polished structural power, and classic aromatic finesse.
