Product description
Originating from the United States in California, specifically within the Napa Valley AVA, Cardinale Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 represents a monumental, mountain-driven, and masterfully blended prestige cuvée. Produced by Jackson Family Wines and situated along the Oakville Cross Road, Cardinale is dedicated to crafting a singular Cabernet Sauvignon that captures the essence of Napa Valley’s high-altitude appellations. The wine is sourced from premier mountain parcels across Diamond Mountain, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, and Spring Mountain, supplemented by a touch of valley-floor fruit from Stags Leap District and Oakville to provide seamless flesh and textural harmony. These steep, rugged hillside vineyards feature shallow, gravelly, and volcanic soils that naturally restrict yields and produce intensely concentrated berries. Under the helm of veteran winemaker Christopher Carpenter, the winemaking philosophy emphasizes gentle manual harvesting, parcel-by-parcel berry sorting, and lot-specific fermentation in open-top stainless steel and French oak fermenters. Maturation occurs over 20 to 22 months in fine-grained French oak barrels (approximately 80% to 85% new oak). The result is a profound, multifaceted Napa Cabernet Sauvignon celebrated for its architectural structure, brooding mineral tension, and multi-decade cellar stamina.
Wine Description
The wine presents a luminous, deep opaque ruby-purple colour with vibrant violet and garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of crème de cassis, wild blackberry, dark boysenberry, and ripe black plum, interwoven with sophisticated notes of graphite, crushed volcanic rock minerality, espresso roast, dark cocoa, subtle dried sage, and warm French oak cedar spice. On the palate, it is full bodied, silken, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of black fruits, licorice, and savoury mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural cool-climate mountain acidity. Framed by muscular, fine-grained structural tannins and a dense, multidimensional mid-palate structure, it concludes with an extraordinarily long, persistent finish marked by lingering dark berries, unsweetened chocolate, and a clean, graphite-like mineral grip. Composed predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon alongside a small proportion of Merlot, this 2021 release offers an optimal drinking window spanning 2027–2050+. Stylistically, it combines high-elevation mountain power, seamless textural luxury, and sovereign cellar endurance.
