Product description

Originating from Italy in the Tuscany region, specifically within the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation, Castello di Ama Chianti Classico 2023 represents an aristocratic, refined, and terroir driven expression of Tuscan Sangiovese. Located in Gaiole in Chianti, Castello di Ama was founded in the 1970s and is internationally celebrated under the leadership of Lorenza Sebasti and winemaker Marco Pallanti for elevating Chianti Classico to world-class heights. Sourced from high-elevation estate vineyards averaging 450 to 500 metres above sea level planted on stony clay-limestone and galestro soils, the winemaking philosophy combines careful hand harvesting, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel vats with native yeasts, and aging in second-passage French oak barriques for approximately 12 months. The result is a Chianti Classico of exceptional elegance, vibrant red fruit purity, and trademark Tuscan acidity and structure.

Wine Description

The wine presents a deep, clear ruby red colour with bright garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, complex bouquet opens with enticing aromas of ripe red cherry, dark plum, wild raspberry, and crushed red currant, interwoven with noble notes of dried violet petals, forest floor, leather, tobacco leaf, and subtle toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is medium bodied, silky, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of red fruit, tart cherry curd, and mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by fine, chalky tannins and a harmonious mid-palate structure, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red fruit, savory Mediterranean herbs, and a clean galestro mineral grip. Composed primarily of Sangiovese blended with small amounts of Merlot, this 2023 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2036. Stylistically, it combines Gaiole's high-altitude freshness and floral finesse with classic Chianti Classico balance and depth.
