Product description

Originating from Italy in the Tuscany region, specifically within the Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG appellation in Gaiole in Chianti, Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Riserva Montebuoni 2022 represents a distinguished, single-vineyard expression of Tuscan Sangiovese. First produced in 2018, Montebuoni is sourced from a historic 15 hectare vineyard parcel acquired by the estate in 1997, situated on a picturesque hill opposite the main estate at approximately 420 to 500 metres elevation. The vines grow on stony clay-limestone and galestro soils, benefiting from excellent sun exposure and cool night breezes. The winemaking philosophy under winemaker Marco Pallanti involves hand harvesting, ambient yeast fermentation in stainless steel vats, and aging in French oak barriques (approximately 20% new) for around 12 to 14 months. The result is a Riserva of remarkable elegance, bright red fruit concentration, and distinct Gaiole terroir expression.

Wine Description

The wine presents a deep, clear ruby red colour with bright garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, complex bouquet opens with enticing aromas of ripe red cherry, wild raspberry, red plum, and blood orange, interwoven with noble notes of dried rose petals, forest floor, leather, graphite, and subtle toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is medium-to-full bodied, silky, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of tart red berries, dark cherry curd, and mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by fine, chalky galestro tannins and a harmonious mid-palate structure, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red fruit, savory Mediterranean herbs, and a clean limestone grip. Composed primarily of Sangiovese blended with a small proportion of Merlot, this 2022 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2040. Stylistically, it combines Gaiole's signature high-altitude freshness and floral finesse with Riserva level depth and structure.
