Castello di Bolgheri 'Varvara Bolgheri' 2020

Product description

The origins of Bolgheri Castle date back to 1200. Since then, it has been the property of the Counts of Gherardesca family. In the second half of the 1700s, restoration work and improvements were made to the building, and the cellars were built. In 1895, the castle’s facade was modified, with the construction of the tower and merlons as we still see them today.

A vintage which produces vines with character, rich fruit and full-bodied more than 2019. They search to emphasize this characteristic. Varvara is particularly well cared for in details from the fruit to the tannin. It will be a proper wine for long ageing.

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast

The nose is a sun-soaked seafaring adventure, with savory notes of dried meat from the hold and leather belts and boots mixing with a rich fruitiness and the salty sea air. The rich, fruity, chocolaty palate eventually turns spicy, and that spice dances with searing acidity to prolong the finish.

93 Points - James Suckling

A linear and vivd red with black-cherry and orange-peel aromas and flavors. Fresh flowers, too. Medium to full body, chewy tannins and a bright finish.

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Here's a quality, easy-to-drink blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The 2020 Bolgheri Rosso Varvara is integrated and smooth with no rough spots. Black fruit, pressed rose, earth and spice are carefully woven together. All elements are in place, and the wine is available at a very attractive price point.

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck

The 2020 Varvara is potent with aromas of pine sap, dried black cherry, leather, and menthol that are followed by a medium to full-bodied red, with a gentle texture and warming notes of black plum, tea leaf, and wooded earth.

92 Points - Wine Spectator

An expressive red, boasting black currant, blackberry, plum, iron and tobacco flavors, with firm, dusty tannins lending support. Fresh and balanced, with plenty of length and staying power.
