Originating from Italy in the famous Tuscany region, specifically within the Barberino Val d'Elsa subregion of Chianti Classico, Castello di Monsanto Cabernet Sauvignon Nemo 2019 represents a landmark Super Tuscan expression of single varietal winemaking. Founded in 1961 by Aldo Bianchi and today expertly led by Laura Bianchi along with winemaker Andrea Giovannini, Castello di Monsanto is celebrated for its historic, estate-driven passion and long-term cellaring heritage. First planted in 1976 in the Il Mulino vineyard, Nemo was conceived to show how high elevation Tuscan terroir can elevate Cabernet Sauvignon, utilizing hand harvesting, temperature controlled steel fermentations, and traditional French oak barrel aging to produce powerful, site-specific wines of immense character and structural longevity.

Wine Description

The wine presents a luminous, deep ruby red colour with dark garnet edges in the glass. An expressive and multifaceted bouquet opens with classic varietal aromas of cassis, ripe black plum, and blackberry, interwoven with sophisticated notes of graphite, dried lavender, pipe tobacco, cedar wood, and subtle sage spice. On the palate, it is full bodied, focused, and precise, delivering rich layers of dark cherry, dark chocolate, and cassis supported by a spine of lively, mouthwatering natural acidity. Framed by polished, linear tannins and a firm mineral undercurrent, it concludes with a long, energetic, and savory finish. Composed of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French oak barrels, this release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2040. Stylistically, it combines Tuscan high altitude freshness and balsamic lift with classical Cabernet structural power and refined oak integration.
