Product description

Castello di Montepò Schidione 2020 is a bold and structured red wine from the Maremma region of Tuscany, Italy. Produced by Jacopo Biondi Santi, heir to the family that pioneered Brunello di Montalcino, the estate is located in the Scansano district within an imposing 12th-century fortress. The winery's philosophy bridges tradition and innovation, utilizing the family's exclusive Sangiovese Grosso BBS11 clone alongside international varieties to create labels with contemporary style and vigorous individuality.

Wine Description

The 2020 Schidione exhibits an inky dark core with a ruby rim. The sensory profile is complex, featuring a nose of balsamic notes, spicy dark cherry, and crushed berries interwoven with tobacco and fine wood. On the palate, it is muscular and dense with fine proportions, offering youthful flavours of fresh dark fruit and ripe extract. This Super Tuscan blend typically consists of 40% Sangiovese (the prized BBS11 clone), 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 20% Merlot. It is characterized by its harmony and balance, with firm yet luscious tannins and a long, lingering finish. While vibrant in its youth, it is built for significant ageing, with an optimal drinking window often extending decades.
