Product description
This extraordinary red wine comes from Italy, originating from the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino DOCG in the northern sector of the Tuscany region. Acquired in 1984 by the celebrated Italian trans-avant-garde artist Sandro Chia, the historic Castello Romitorio estate is managed today alongside his son, Filippo Chia. The winery functions on a winemaking philosophy that bridges classic structural purity with artistic expression, using a white artist label for this particular bottling to distinguish its unique personality. The Riserva designation represents the pinnacle of the estate's production, crafted from a meticulous selection of the finest Sangiovese grapes that undergo extended cellar maturation before release.
Wine Description
The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva exhibits a brilliant ruby red colour with a sparkling, dark core in the glass. On the nose, it unveils an unexpected and inviting cornucopia of aromas, showcasing powerful cherry fruit, macerated blueberries, and sugared blackberries, seamlessly interwoven with complex layers of damp earth, cured tobacco, barbecue smoke, and grilled herbs. The palate is full bodied, seamless, and silky to the touch, carrying a classic and deep profile of dried strawberry, dark cherry, and wild plum accented by nutmeg, clove, and toasted almond. It balances a dense, texturally rich fruit core against a graceful, vibrant acidity and a towering framework of sweet, fine grained tannins. Delicate undertones of lavender sachet, dusty rose, and blue flowers emerge on the back palate, culminating in a soft, glossy, and almost endless finish that leaves persistent savory accents. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese, this elite wine is highly elegant rather than overly muscular. Poised for magnificent long term aging, its optimal drinking window extends well through 2050.
Vintage Quality
The 2019 vintage is widely celebrated as an absolute triumph and a benchmark year for Montalcino, yielding radiant fruit defined by an ideal balance of phenolic ripeness and natural freshness. Balanced weather conditions allowed the late-ripening Sangiovese grapes to develop slowly and steadily, giving winemakers the perfect raw material to craft wines with deep aromatic clarity, exceptional depth, and long term cellaring potential.
