Product description

Introduction

This dark and rich red wine originates from United States, bearing a broad California appellation. Founded in 1972 by the Wagner family, Caymus Vineyards is one of Napa Valley's most iconic names, now celebrating over 50 years of winemaking. While world-renowned for their Napa Valley bottlings, this 'California' Cabernet Sauvignon was introduced with the 2021 vintage to explore the state’s diverse vineyard land beyond the Napa borders. The Wagner family's philosophy focuses on 'signature hallmarks'—sourcing fruit from hidden pockets across the state with ideal stony soils and maritime influences to produce a wine that is consistently supple and approachable.

Wine Description

The 2023 Caymus 'California' Cabernet Sauvignon presents a saturated, dark ruby colour. The aromatic profile is intense and layered, featuring hallmark notes of ripe blackberry, cassis, and dark plum, accented by cocoa powder, sweet spice, and vanilla. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and luxurious, revealing a rich texture with flavours of chocolate-dusted berries, mocha, and black cherry.

This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted in a bold, opulent style with fine-grained, velvety tannins that provide immediate drinkability. The finish is long and polished, lingering with notes of baking spice and warm, ripe fruit. While it is designed to be seductive and 'effortlessly drinkable' upon release, its concentrated fruit and structure allow it to soften beautifully with age.

Food Pairing

The wine's rich fruit and supple tannins make it a perfect match for hearty, fire-grilled dishes such as ribeye steak with herb butter or BBQ brisket. It also pairs elegantly with short rib ragu, beef bourguignon, or aged cheeses like Gouda and Comté. This pairing highlights the wine's depth and character.
