Product description

Champagne André Clouet 'Chalky' Brut NV is a distinctive Blanc de Blancs that serves as a tribute to the ancient chalky terroir of the Champagne region. While André Clouet is traditionally known as a specialist in Pinot Noir from the Grand Cru village of Bouzy, this cuvée represents a significant deviation for winemaker Jean-François Clouet by focusing exclusively on Chardonnay. The wine is beautifully presented in a special white-coated bottle with a matching gift box designed to mimic the appearance of a chalk cliff.

Wine Description

  • Colour and Varietal: A bright golden-coloured Champagne made from 100% Chardonnay.

  • Terroir: The grapes are sourced one-third from the southern slopes of the Montagne de Reims and two-thirds from the Côte des Blancs.

  • Aroma: The nose is powerful and expressive, featuring citrus, almond, and blossom, alongside notes of lightly candied fruit, spice, and gingerbread.

  • Palate and Body: On the palate, the wine is mineral-driven and salty with a creamy perlage. It offers flavours of sweet citrus and ginger bread, balancing a "salty-chalky purism" with a seductive, melting charm.

  • Philosophy: The cuvée is a homage to the 200 million years of geological history that created the region's mineral-rich, limestone-heavy soil, which provides the vines with warmth, water drainage, and a unique saline character.

Food Pairing

The crisp, mineral, and saline profile of 'Chalky' makes it a highly versatile pairing partner.

  • Seafood: It is a classic match for fresh oysters, grilled langoustines, giant crevettes, and smoked fish.

  • Brunch and Appetizers: Suggested pairings include eggs Benedict and various apéro pastries.

  • Main Courses: The wine's structured acidity and richness allow it to complement succulent chicken breast served with a cream sauce.
