Product description

This structured and 'authoritative' red wine originates from the United States, within the highly celebrated mountain terrain of Napa Valley, California. Sourced predominantly from Chappellet’s legendary, high-elevation estate blocks on Pritchard Hill, the "Signature" bottling has served as the foundational flagship and defining benchmark for premium hillside Napa Cabernet Sauvignon for over three decades. Donn and Molly Chappellet first established the winery in 1967 under the direct advice of legendary winemaker André Tchelistcheff, who recognized that the rugged, volcanic slopes would produce world-class wines. Operating under a philosophy of strict mountain precision, the estate manages its dry, rocky, and low-fertility iron-rich soils with aggressive crop thinning, naturally restricting vine yields to pack the small berries with immense structural longevity.

Wine Description

The 2022 Chappellet Signature Cabernet Sauvignon presents a beautifully dark, opaque garnet-purple appearance with concentrated violet shades at the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally deep, complex, and expressive, opening with a bold, high-toned bouquet of crème de cassis, black cherries, and ripe plum preserves, seamlessly layered with fragrant notes of mountain sage, lead pencil shavings, sappy spring flowers, and aged tobacco leaf. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated, and texturally rich, showcasing a luxurious, mouth-coating core of black currant compote, dark chocolate, and roasted espresso bean. It is characterized by an outstanding structural balance, maintaining an uncommonly fresh, vibrant backbone of natural acidity (pH 3.72) that keeps the rich hillside extraction beautifully focused and fluid. The mouthfeel is seamless and silky, driven by firm, fine-grained, and chalky tannins that glide into a remarkably persistent, savory finish accented by lingering notes of smoked cedar, anise, and toasted French oak barrel spices.
