Product description
Originating from the Beaujolais region of France, this wine is specifically from vineyards in Saint-Jean-d'Ardières, situated ideally between the prestigious crus of Morgon and Brouilly. Château Cambon is an iconic estate born from the collaboration of the late Marcel Lapierre—the godfather of the natural wine movement—and his lifelong friend Jean-Claude Chanudet. Today, the estate is managed by Marie Lapierre and Chanudet, continuing the legacy of low-intervention winemaking. The wine is sourced from ancient Gamay vines, some planted as far back as 1914, rooted in a mix of granitic, clay, and siliceous soils. Although it carries the humble "Beaujolais" appellation, the terroir and vine age give this wine a depth and structure that rivals many classified Crus, often referred to by insiders as a "Cru in disguise."
Wine Description
Château Cambon Beaujolais displays a vibrant, bright ruby colour with violet hues. The nose is a classic expression of pure Gamay, bursting with fresh aromas of crushed raspberries, wild strawberries, and tart cherries, accented by floral notes of violet and peony. On the palate, the wine is energetic and juicy (often described by the French term gouleyant), featuring a silky texture and soft, melted tannins. It balances its lush fruitiness with a distinct mineral backbone and a savory, earthy finish derived from the granite soils.
