The estate has been owned by the Dillon family of Domaine Clarence Dillon since 1983, a landmark acquisition that brought it under the same management as its illustrious neighbour, Chateau Haut-Brion. The winery’s philosophy emphasizes the unique historical significance of its terroir, which features deep Gunzian gravel hillocks that provide exceptional drainage and exposure for the vines.
Wine Description
This vintage presents a bold ruby or deep garnet-purple colour. The nose is complex and detailed, revealing aromas of plums, cassis, and black raspberries mingled with sophisticated notes of graphite, scorched earth, tobacco leaf, and sweet spices such as clove and allspice. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied and seamless, characterized by a deep, concentrated core of fruit supported by bright acidity and supple, powdery tannins. Stylistically, it is lauded for its elegant and fresh profile—a 'masterclass in cool climate fruit delivery'—concluding with a long, muscular finish with mineral and savory undertones. The varietal composition is a blend of 48% Merlot, 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 6% Cabernet Franc. The optimal drinking window for this 2021 vintage is between 2027 and 2055.
