Product description
This full-bodied, organic red wine originates from France, within the highly celebrated Terrasses du Larzac AOP in the northern Languedoc region. Nestled at the foot of the Larzac plateau, Château La Sauvageonne is a spectacular volcanic estate owned by Gérard Bertrand. The vineyard features an extraordinary combination of red volcanic soils (known as Ruffes), sandstone, and schist. The unique high-altitude microclimate brings dramatic shifts between hot summer days and chilly mountain nights, allowing the fruit to achieve optimum ripeness alongside a distinct freshness. The estate is fully certified Organic and Biodynamic (Demeter).
Wine Description
The Château La Sauvageonne Grand Vin Rouge 2022 is a rich, intense, and deeply complex southern red characterized by a striking balance of jammy dark fruit and savory, wild mountain herbs.
Appearance: Intense, deep ruby red with subtle tile-red glints at the rim.
Nose: Highly expressive and distinctively regional. It bursts with aromas of dark plums, spiced cherries, and blueberry jam, closely followed by dense undertones of Mediterranean scrubland (garrigue), peppercorns, dark chocolate, and a faint hint of gingerbread.
Palate: Medium- to full-bodied, textured, and deeply generous. The entry brings a concentrated core of sweet berries, wild blackberries, and baking pastries. The mid-palate features beautifully integrated, powdery, and fine-grained tannins backed by an energetic freshness that elegantly carries the high alcohol. The finish is focused, long, and smooth with a kiss of smoky, roasted oak.
Technical Details: A classic Terrasses du Larzac blend primarily featuring Syrah and Grenache Noir, balanced with Mourvèdre and Carignan. The grapes are hand-harvested parcellarly, fully destemmed, and undergo a 20- to 25-day maceration. The wine is aged for 12 to 16 months in new 225-liter French oak barrels before final blending. The alcohol content is a robust 15.0% to 15.5% ABV.
