Chateau Lagrange 2014

This red wine is from France, produced in the Bordeaux region within the Saint Julien subregion. Chateau Lagrange is a historic Third Growth estate that was originally planted in the early 16th century and became the largest wine-producing estate in the Médoc after the unification of two domains. The Japanese group Suntory acquired the property in 1983, initiating a complete restructuring of the vineyard and a modernization of the winemaking facilities to emphasize precision and uncompromised quality. The winery's philosophy is rooted in expressing its unique terroir composed of 17 different soil types by vinifying over 100 individual plots separately before blending.

Wine Description

The 2014 Chateau Lagrange presents a dark red colour with purple hues. The nose is intense and aromatic, featuring scents of black cherry, blackcurrant, and raspberry mingled with notes of rose, cedar, sandalwood, and tobacco. On the palate, the wine is medium to full bodied with an elegant, fleshy attack and a core of intense red fruit, pomegranate, and smoke. It is characterized by its refined balance, vibrant acidity, and firm, grainy tannins that lead into a long, sophisticated finish. This red Bordeaux blend consists of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, and 6% Petit Verdot. It has an ABV of 13.5% and is best enjoyed from 2024 through 2045.

Vintage Quality

The 2014 vintage in Saint Julien is considered a great success for Chateau Lagrange, resulting in a wine with more precision than the 2006 or 2008 vintages. Harvest occurred from September 25 until October 17, and the year featured a particularly high concentration of Cabernet Sauvignon, which provided the wine with a powerful structure and long-term aging potential.
