Product description
Château Léoville Barton is a historic 2nd Growth (Deuxième Grand Cru Classé) estate in the Saint-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. Known for its unwavering commitment to classicism, the Barton family has maintained a reputation for producing long-lived, deeply structured, and classic Left Bank expressions.
The 2023 vintage marks an exciting milestone for the estate: it is the third year utilizing their state-of-the-art new gravity-flow winery. Additionally, it represents the very first vintage where Cabernet Franc has officially been incorporated into the Grand Vin blend.
Wine Description
The Château Léoville Barton 2023 unfurls with a deep, dark garnet-purple core. On the nose, it is highly expressive and perfumed, wafting with aromas of cassis, fresh blackberry, and redcurrant jelly, accompanied by classic Saint-Julien signature notes of graphite, pencil shavings, ripe tobacco, licorice, and floral violet accents.
On the palate, this wine is medium to full-bodied, offering remarkable concentration, focus, and energy. What sets the 2023 apart is its seamless interplay between classicism and textural richness. The tannins are cashmere-like and refined—giving weightless elegance while maintaining an imposing, cellar-worthy structure underneath. Lifted by vibrant acidity, it finishes long, mineral-driven, and penetrating.
The blend consists of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Harvested between September 12 and October 2, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (60% new). Built for the long haul, it will reward cellaring through 2030 to 2060+.
