Tasting Notes

  • Color: Deep garnet-purple.
  • Nose: Aromas of crème de cassis, stewed plums, and blueberry preserves, with hints of licorice, lilacs, damp soil, and truffles.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and concentrated, featuring ripe, firm, grainy tannins, balanced freshness, and a long, pure finish.

Accolades

  • Wine Enthusiast: 100 Points – "This wine is rich yet structured, with dense tannins and concentrated black fruits. It displays a great balance between the fruit and the structure, offering a long aging potential."
  • Vinous (Antonio Galloni): 99 Points – "The 2016 Pontet-Canet is absolutely breathtaking. Powerful, ample, and racy in the glass, it is one of the most exquisitely well-balanced young Pontet-Canets I can remember tasting."

Optimal Drinking Window

This wine is expected to develop beautifully with age and is best enjoyed from 2025 through 2050.

Serving Suggestions

Decanting for about an hour is recommended to allow the wine to open up fully. Serve at a temperature of 15.5°C (60°F). This wine pairs excellently with classic meat dishes such as veal, pork, beef, lamb, duck, game, roast chicken, as well as rich fish courses like tuna, mushrooms, pasta, and a variety of hard and soft cheeses.
