Product description

Originating from Portugal in the Douro region, specifically within the Porto DOC appellation, Cockburn's 10 Year Old Tawny Port represents a rich, mellow, and expertly blended expression of traditional wood-aged Port. Founded in 1815 by Scottish brothers Robert and John Cockburn, Cockburn's is one of the historic Port houses that shaped the Douro trade, famous for its pioneering viticulture and iconic estate vineyards like Quinta dos Canais in the Upper Corgo. Now owned and managed by Symington Family Estates, Cockburn's retains its distinct style through dedicated barrel aging managed by the house's master cooperage team in Vila Nova de Gaia. The grapes are harvested from steep, terraced schist vineyards along the Douro River, followed by brief temperature-controlled fermentation in traditional lagares and fortification with neutral grape spirit (aguardente). Aged for an average of 10 years in seasoned oak casks (pipas), the wine undergoes gradual oxidation, developing its signature tawny hue, nutty complexity, and silky smooth palate.

Wine Description

The wine presents a brilliant, clear medium tawny-amber colour with warm brick and copper highlights along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of dried fig, raisin, date, and orange peel, interwoven with sophisticated notes of toasted walnut, hazelnut, caramel, pipe tobacco, dried plum, and subtle cinnamon spice. On the palate, it is full bodied, silken, and mouth-filling, delivering concentrated flavours of dried fruits, butterscotch, and warm spicy oak, all supported by a bright, refreshing spine of balanced acidity that cuts through the natural sweetness. Framed by a smooth, velvety mid-palate structure and seamless warmth, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering roasted nuts, orange marmalade, and a clean caramel grip. Composed of a traditional blend of indigenous Douro varieties including Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinta Barroca, it offers immediate drinking appeal upon release. Stylistically, it combines classic Symington barrel-aged richness, vibrant dried fruit complexity, and luscious dessert appeal.
