Product description
Produced by Famiglia Cotarella (formerly Falesco) the renowned family estate founded in 1979 by legendary winemaking brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella "Poggio dei Gelsi" serves as the flagship historical white that elevated the region's ancient heritage. Sourced from selected vineyard parcels planted on crumbly, skeletal volcanic soils surrounding the volcanic basin of Lake Bolsena, the vines benefit from a unique microclimate moderated by deep lake waters and fresh breezes. The volcanic, mineral-rich terroir enables local varieties to build juicy citrus-fruit volume while preserving a crisp, mouthwatering natural acidity and delicate, savory minerality.
Wine Description
Famiglia Cotarella "Poggio dei Gelsi" presents a luminous, pale straw-yellow color in the glass with bright platinum and subtle greenish reflections along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and aromatic, delivering a vibrant, precise, and expressive portrait of volcanic Lazio terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of fresh lime zest, green apple, white peach, and nectarine, seamlessly layered with delicate underlays of orange blossom, acacia, white almond, and a clean line of crushed volcanic stone minerality. On the palate, the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, sleek, and athletic, showcasing a succulent core of tart orchard fruit, citrus curd, and salted melon. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that cuts cleanly across the palate. The mouthfeel is broad, weightless, and supple, carrying into a refreshing, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by persistent notes of citrus peel, subtle spice, and a classic, pleasant bitter-almond hint.
