Estrella Damm is the "Beer of Barcelona" and a symbol of Mediterranean lifestyle since 1876. Founded by August Küntzmann Damm, who emigrated from Alsace to escape the Franco-Prussian War, it was specifically designed to be lighter and more refreshing than heavy Central European lagers to suit the warm Spanish climate. Today, it remains Spain's oldest beer brand and is brewed using 100% natural ingredients—notably including rice from the Ebro Delta, which contributes to its signature crispness.

Beer Description

This Mediterranean lager pours a brilliant, clear golden color with amber reflections and a tight, creamy, long-lasting head.

Aroma: It features a clean, inviting bouquet. The nose is dominated by the scent of fresh spices and toasted grains, with a subtle floral backdrop and a hint of yeast.

Palate: On the tongue, it is light-to-medium-bodied with fine, lively carbonation that creates a smooth mouthfeel. It leads with a delicate malt sweetness and notes of toasted cereal, followed by a refreshing acidity. The finish is clean, dry, and characterized by a persistent, refined bitterness.

Profile: It has an ABV of 5.4% (though a 4.6% version is common in some international markets) and a bitterness of 26 IBU, providing more character and "bite" than many standard international pale lagers.

Technical Notes: The recipe has remained largely unchanged for over 140 years. It is brewed with Mediterranean pearl rice, which lightens the body and provides a clean finish. Damm is one of the few industrial breweries that still uses its own malthouse and maintains its own proprietary yeast strain, which has been preserved through three high-security reserves in Barcelona, Valencia, and London.
