Product description
This structured and 'aristocratic' red wine originates from France, within the prestigious Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru A.O.C. appellation of the Côte de Nuits sub-region in northern Burgundy. Domaine Anne F. Gros led by Anne Gros and her children (Julie, Anne-Lise, and Paul Tremblay) holds an iconic position in Vosne-Romanée, revered globally for producing wines of transcendent elegance, pure fruit focus, and profound terroir transparency. The domain owns a highly coveted 0.93-hectare parcel inside the historic walled Clos de Vougeot, situated in the premium Grand Maupertui section directly adjacent to the Grand Cru of Grands-Échézeaux. The old vines are rooted in shallow, gravelly clay-limestone soils overlying fractured Bajocian limestone bedrock. The continental microclimate features warm daytime sun balanced by cool nighttime air currents descending from the Combe de Concois, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve complete phenolic maturation while preserving a laser-focused, age-worthy natural acidity.
Wine Description
The 2024 Domaine Anne F. Gros Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Grand Maupertui presents a deep, luminous crimson-garnet color in the glass with shimmering magenta and violet highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally bold, high-toned, and complex, delivering an expansive, precise, and noble portrait of legendary Grand Cru terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring, multi-layered display of black cherries, wild forest raspberries, and dark plum compote, seamlessly integrated with complex underlays of dried rose petals, violets, damp earth, crushed graphite, sweet spices, and a subtle line of crushed limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, muscular, and athletic, showcasing a succulent core of dark stone fruits, blood orange peel, dark cocoa nibs, and savory spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its rich mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is broad, silky, and linear, framed by firm, fine-grained, and chalky Grand Cru tannins that glide into an extraordinarily long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by lingering notes of dark cherry skin, truffle, and polished French oak.
Vintage Quality
The 2024 growing season across the Côte de Nuits featured a cool, wet spring followed by a warm, sun-drenched late summer and crisp, dry autumn harvest conditions. This late-season extended ripening window allowed Pinot Noir grapes to achieve ideal phenolic maturity, building deep skin flavor while locking in vibrant natural malic and tartaric acids. Domaine Anne F. Gros harvested pristine, healthy fruit at peak structural balance. The resulting 2024 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru combines high-energy fruit purity with noble Burgundian structural drive, built to evolve and improve gracefully in a cellar over the next 15 to 30+ years.
