Product description
This structured and 'crystalline' red wine originates from France, within the esteemed Vosne-Romanée A.O.C. appellation of the Côte de Nuits sub-region in northern Burgundy. Domaine Anne F. Gros, led by Anne Gros and her children (Julie, Anne-Lise, and Paul Tremblay), is celebrated worldwide for producing Burgundies of supreme aromatic finesse, pure fruit expression, and terroir transparency. Sourced from the single lieu-dit 'Les Chalandins' situated on the lower slope directly below the famous Clos de Vougeot and Grand Rue Grand Crus the old vines are rooted in deep, clay-limestone soils rich in alluvial gravel and iron-rich silt. The continental microclimate features warm summer sunshine balanced by cooling breezes flowing down from the Combe de Concois, allowing Pinot Noir to achieve complete phenolic maturity while retaining a sharp, mouthwatering natural acidity.
Wine Description
The 2024 Domaine Anne F. Gros Vosne-Romanée 'Les Chalandins' presents a luminous, deep crimson-ruby color in the glass with vivid magenta highlights along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, high-toned, and complex, delivering an elegant, floral, and precisely focused portrait of Vosne-Romanée terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring display of wild forest strawberries, dark raspberries, and black cherries, seamlessly layered with delicate underlays of dried rose petals, violets, subtle exotic spices, damp earth, and a distinct line of crushed limestone minerality. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, sleek, and precisely focused, showcasing a succulent core of crunchy red stone fruits, blood orange peel, and subtle earthy spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is broad, silky, and weightless, framed by ultra-fine, chalky tannins that glide into a long, dry, and mineral-driven finish accented by lingering notes of cherry skin, forest floor, and delicate French oak.
This high-definition Burgundian expression is 100% Pinot Noir, harvested meticulously by hand from low-yielding, old-vine blocks with rigorous cluster sorting in both vineyard and cellar. Following 100% destemming to preserve pure silkiness, the fruit underwent cold pre-fermentation maceration in temperature-controlled vats, followed by traditional fermentation with daily gentle punch-downs (pigeage) and pump-overs. To polish its structural frame while framing its pristine fruit purity, the wine completed malolactic conversion and was matured for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (approximately 30% to 50% new oak). It reaches an effortlessly integrated, food-friendly alcohol content (ABV) of 13.0% to 13.5% and is finished bone-dry.
Vintage Quality
The 2024 growing season across Burgundy and the Côte de Nuits featured a cool, wet spring followed by a warm, sun-drenched late summer and crisp, dry autumn days. This late-season extended ripening window allowed Pinot Noir grapes to achieve ideal phenolic maturity, accumulating rich skin flavor while locking in vibrant natural malic and tartaric acids. Domaine Anne F. Gros harvested pristine, healthy fruit at peak balance. The resulting 2024 Vosne-Romanée 'Les Chalandins' combines high-energy fruit purity with classic Burgundian structural restraint, built to evolve and improve gracefully in a cellar over the next 10 to 20 years.
