Product description
This prestigious Monopole Grand Cru red wine originates from France, within the Corton appellation in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy. Founded in 1825, Domaine Faiveley is one of Burgundy's largest and most historic family-owned estates, managed today by seventh-generation siblings Erwan and Eve Faiveley. Clos des Cortons Faiveley holds a unique status in French wine law: it is one of only two Grand Crus in Burgundy that bears the name of its proprietor alongside the vineyard designation. Situated on steep, east-facing mid-slopes rich in iron-dense red clay and Oxfordian limestone in Ladoix-Serrigny, this 2.76-hectare walled vineyard (clos) produces a powerful, highly structured expression of Pinot Noir.
Wine Description
In the glass, the 2023 vintage displays a deep, luminous garnet-ruby color with violet highlights. The nose is intense, complex, and noble, opening with layered aromas of ripe dark cherry, wild blackberry, and cassis, interwoven with notes of crushed rose petals, forest floor, game, crushed limestone minerality, and subtle toasted oak spice. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, concentrated, and muscular, showcasing the signature power of Corton balanced by Faiveley’s modern refinement. Dense, fine-grained tannins build across the palate, supported by vibrant natural acidity and a long, saline, mineral-driven finish. Crafted from 100% Pinot Noir (sourced from vines planted as early as 1936), the hand-harvested grapes undergo meticulous sorting and partial whole-cluster fermentation in custom wooden vats. The wine is aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels (approximately 50% new) in the estate’s 19th-century cellars in Nuits-Saint-Georges. The alcohol by volume sits at 13.5%.
Food Pairing
The impressive structural depth, firm tannic backbone, and complex savory aromatics of this Grand Cru Pinot Noir call for rich, sophisticated game and meat dishes. It pairs magnificently with roasted rack of venison, slow-braised beef bourguignon, pan-seared duck breast with cherry reduction, roasted rack of lamb, and wild boar stew. For cheese pairings, opt for traditional washed-rind or aged Burgundian cheeses such as Époisses, Ami du Chambertin, Cîteaux, or mature Comté.
Vintage Quality
The 2023 vintage across the Côte de Beaune produced Pinot Noirs defined by generous fruit expression, vibrant freshness, and smooth structural integration. A warm summer permitted complete, uniform phenolic ripening without severe water stress, allowing iron-rich terroirs like Clos des Cortons to develop deep aromatic weight while preserving precise acidity. The 2023 Domaine Faiveley Corton Clos des Cortons Faiveley combines immediate aromatic charm with immense concentration, making it a benchmark cellar-worthy Grand Cru that will evolve and improve gracefully over 15 to 25+ years.
