Product description
Originating from France in the Burgundy region, specifically within the Volnay Premier Cru AOC appellation in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson Volnay Premier Cru 'Les Chanlins' 2024 represents a pure, organic, and powerfully mineral expression of Premier Cru Pinot Noir. Based in the high-elevation village of Saint-Romain with family winemaking heritage dating back to 1758, Domaine Henri et Gilles Buisson is a pioneer of certified organic and biodynamic viticulture in the Côte d'Or. The Premier Cru vineyard of 'Les Chanlins' is exceptionally situated on the upper, steep southern slopes of Volnay directly bordering the Pommard Premier Cru 'Les Rugiens', characterized by stony, iron-rich reddish clay over hard Bathonian limestone bedrock. Under brothers Franck and Frédérick Buisson, the viticultural philosophy centres on hand harvesting in small crates, rigorous sorting, spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts using a high proportion of whole clusters, and aging for 12 to 14 months in carefully selected French oak barrels (approximately 20% new oak) with minimal sulphur and no fining or filtration. The result is a vibrant, structured red Burgundy that unites the perfumed silkiness of Volnay with the muscle, earthy depth, and longevity of its Pommard neighbour.
Wine Description
The wine presents a luminous, clear medium ruby red colour with vivid crimson-garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of ripe dark cherry, wild strawberry, black raspberry, and red currant compote, interwoven with sophisticated notes of fresh violet petals, dried rose hips, crushed limestone minerality, forest floor, orange zest, and warm French oak cedar spice. On the palate, it is medium bodied, silken, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of crisp red berries, tart plum, and savoury mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural cool-climate acidity. Framed by fine-grained, chalky tannins and an elegantly chiseled mid-palate structure, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red fruit, dried wild thyme, and a clean gravelly grip. Composed of 100% Pinot Noir, this 2024 release offers an optimal drinking window spanning 2028–2040+. Stylistically, it combines Buisson's biodynamic purity, lifted floral aromatics, and focused Côte de Beaune tension.
