Product description

The Domaine Michel Gros Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits "Fontaine Saint-Martin" Monopole Rouge 2023 is the red counterpart to the estate's acclaimed white monopole. Located in the commune of Arcenant—just a few kilometers above Vosne-Romanée—this 7-hectare amphitheater vineyard sits at an elevation between 350 and 390 meters. Replanted by the Gros family in the late 1970s and 1980s, the estate's high-altitude site sits on steep, southeast-facing slopes of Jurassic limestone and marl. This unique microclimate preserves vital acidity while allowing the vines to reach ideal phenolic maturity, creating a red Burgundy that punches well above its regional classification.

Wine Description

In the glass, "Fontaine Saint-Martin" Rouge exhibits a bright, luminous ruby color with violet reflections. On the nose, it offers a fresh, aromatic bouquet of dark cherry, wild raspberry, and red plum, layered with subtle notes of clove spice, forest floor, and delicate rose petals.

On the palate, this 100% Pinot Noir is medium-bodied and structured. The palate opens with a juicy core of red and black berries supported by a refined, mineral chalkiness and integrated tannins. Vinified using traditional Burgundian methods and aged primarily in French oak barrels (with a small proportion of new oak), the wood influence is subtly integrated to highlight fruit purity and site specificity. It is approachable with brief decanting now, yet possesses the tannic backbone to evolve nicely through 2032.
