Product description
Originating from France in the Burgundy region, specifically within the premier tier of the Pommard appellation in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Parent Pommard Premier Cru 'Les Rugiens' 2020 1.5 Litre represents a powerful, muscular, and exceptionally cellar-worthy expression of Premier Cru Pinot Noir presented in a magnum bottle format. Owned and operated by sisters Anne and Catherine Parent, Domaine Parent traces its winemaking roots back to 1753 and is widely acclaimed for its certified organic viticulture, biodynamic principles, and classic, age-worthy style. Sourced from 'Les Rugiens', universally regarded as Pommard's most revered Premier Cru vineyard and a candidate for Grand Cru elevation, the vines sit on steep, iron-rich reddish clay and limestone soils. The winemaking philosophy combines hand harvesting, careful sorting, native yeast fermentation with partial whole clusters, and barrel aging in French oak (approximately 40% to 50% new) for up to 18 months, yielding a wine of profound structural depth, dark berry intensity, and enduring longevity amplified by the 1.5 Litre format.
Wine Description
The wine presents an opaque, deep dark ruby red colour with intense purple-garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly complex bouquet opens with dark, brooding aromas of black plum, dark cherry, cassis, and wild blackberry, interwoven with seductive notes of iron filings, forest floor, dried rose petals, dark chocolate, leather, and sweet toasted oak spice. On the palate, it is full bodied, dense, and powerfully structured, delivering concentrated flavours of dark berries, red fruit curd, and mineral earth, all anchored by a firm, mouthwatering core of natural acidity. Framed by muscular, fine-grained tannins and a deep, multi-layered mid-palate, it concludes with an extraordinarily long, persistent finish marked by lingering black fruit, savory spices, and a stony limestone grip. Composed of 100% Pinot Noir, this 2020 magnum release offers an optimal drinking window of 2028–2050+. Stylistically, it combines the exceptional concentration and cool-toned acid-tannin structure of the 2020 vintage with 'Les Rugiens' iconic power, earthiness, and ageability.
