Product description
Domaine René Rostaing is an elite, benchmark estate in Côte-Rôtie, situated in the Northern Rhône Valley of France. Founded by René Rostaing in 1971, the domaine was significantly elevated around 2000 when he inherited prized old-vine parcels from his uncle, Marius Gentaz, and father-in-law, Albert Dervieux. Today, the estate is meticulously managed by René's son, Pierre Rostaing, who honors a winemaking philosophy focused on tradition, transparency, and a minimal use of new oak to allow individual terroirs to speak. The single-vineyard La Landonne is sourced from one of the most celebrated, steep iron- and shale-rich slopes in the appellation, renowned for yielding wines of tremendous power and longevity.
Wine Description
The Domaine René Rostaing 'La Landonne' Côte-Rôtie 2022 is a profound, deeply complex, and tightly wound masterpiece. In the glass, it features a brooding, dark ruby-purple profile. The bouquet is highly expressive and layered, unveiling concentrated aromas of smoked black fruits, raw steak, and cassis, seamlessly framed by notes of fresh violets, graphite, stemmy complexities, pencil shavings, and a touch of orange rind.
On the palate, this 100% Syrah is medium to full-bodied, dense, and impeccably balanced. In step with the estate’s traditional methods, the fruit was fermented completely with whole bunches and aged predominantly in large, neutral demi-muid casks, keeping new oak restricted to a maximum of 10%. The 2022 vintage presents a slightly fleshier and more immediate texturing than classic cooler years, yet it remains anchored by firm, serious, and mineral-laced tannins alongside an inky, driving finish. It demands cellar patience, with an optimal drinking window estimated between 2028 and 2060.
