Product description
Originating from France in the Burgundy region, specifically within the prestigious Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru appellation in the Cote de Nuits, Domaine Seguin Manuel Grand Cru 'Clos de Vougeot' 2020 represents a powerful, regal, and cellaring grade expression of classic Pinot Noir. Managed by Thibaut Marion, whose family has deep roots in Burgundian winemaking, Domaine Seguin Manuel was originally established in 1824 and completely modernized following its acquisition in 2004 to focus on organic viticulture and parcel selection. Sourced from the historic 50-hectare walled Clos de Vougeot vineyard, where vines sit on deep clay, limestone, and alluvial gravel soils, the winemaking philosophy combines careful hand harvesting, native yeast fermentation, and extended barrel aging in French oak (approximately 40% to 50% new) for up to 18 months. The result is a Grand Cru red Burgundy that showcases the massive structural presence, concentrated fruit, and long-term aging capacity of this legendary walled enclosure.
Wine Description
The wine presents a deep, clear dark ruby purple colour with bright crimson reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly complex bouquet opens with noble aromas of dark red cherry, wild blackberry, black plum, and crushed cassis, interwoven with savory notes of game, leather, forest floor, damp earth, sweet spices, and dark toasted oak. On the palate, it is full bodied, muscular, and dense, delivering concentrated flavours of black fruits, sour cherry, and mineral iron, all supported by a vibrant, mouthwatering core of natural acidity. Framed by fine-grained, firm Grand Cru tannins and a broad, expansive mid-palate structure, it concludes with an exceptionally long, persistent finish marked by lingering dark fruit, savory spice, and stony mineral grip. Composed of 100% Pinot Noir, this 2020 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2028–2045+. Stylistically, it combines the sun-ripened warmth and dense concentration of the 2020 vintage with Clos de Vougeot's signature muscle, weight, and grand structural longevity.
