Intense ruby red colored, Mille e una Notte 2016 is characterized by an ample bouquet, with fruity notes (blackberry and black mulberry) and balsamic (liquorice) and spicy scents (nutmeg). The palate is soft and embracing, surprising with an extraordinary silky tannin. A remarkable long persistence on the finish. excellent with roast and braised meat, first courses with ragù and rack of lamb. Try it with tasty dishes of stewed fish. If served in large, big-bellied goblets it can be uncorked a few minutes before, otherwise a couple of hours earlier.
95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate Compared to the 2017 vintage, this wine shows better balance and more evident complexity. In fact, this is a stand-out vintage of Donnafugata's flagship red (made with a blend of mostly Nero d'Avola with some Petit Verdot, Syrah and other complementary grapes). The 2016 Sicilia Mille e Una Notte is brooding and dark, with plum and fresh aromas of blackberry and blackcurrant. Those fruit tones are framed by baker's chocolate, tilled earth and sweet tobacco. The wine's 14% alcohol is balanced and carefully woven into the thick fiber and soft tannins of this full-bodied red. Production is 70,000 bottles.
93 Points - James Suckling Violets, blackcurrants and oyster shell on the nose. It’s medium-bodied and savory with plenty of bark and ash. Cherry stones, too. Medium, fine tannins and a tight finish. Juicy and rich. Drink or hold.
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast Made predominantly with Nero d'Avola, Petit Verdot and Syrah, this red has aromas of French oak, eucalyptus, warm spice and blue flower. The medium-bodied palate is both concentrated yet lifted, offering sour cherry, nutmeg and star anise alongside assertive, close-grained tannins that leave a mouthdrying close.
90 Points - Decanter Stylish nose with elegant oak under rich dark cherry aromas refreshed by leafy notes. Muscular palate, with dense black fruit.
