Raised by Wolves IPA is a benchmark modern India Pale Ale from Victoria, British Columbia’s acclaimed Driftwood Brewery. While classic West Coast IPAs lean heavily into aggressive pine and palate-scraping bitterness, Raised by Wolves is a juicy, expressive Hazy/Contemporary IPA that pushes intense tropical aromatics to the forefront while retaining just enough Northwest structure to keep it razor-sharp and drinkable.

Beer Description

Raised by Wolves pours a glowing, lightly hazy golden-tangerine hue, crowned by a thick, frothy off-white head that leaves dense, sticky curtains of lacing clinging to the glass.

Aroma: The nose is an absolute hop explosion, intensely aromatic and juicy. It leads with dominant notes of fresh mango flesh, ripe yellow peach, and candied papaya, layered over bright top notes of tangerine zest, lime peel, and a subtle undertone of damp Northwest pine needles.

Palate: On the tongue, it is medium-bodied with a lush, soft, yet lively effervescent mouthfeel. It opens with a wave of tropical stone fruit, juicy nectarine, and sweet citrus pulp, grounded by a clean, crackery malt base. The mid-palate introduces a brisk, resinous hop character that reins in the fruit sweetness, transitioning into a crisp, semi-dry finish marked by a clean, lingering grapefruit-pith bitterness.

Profile: It sits at an approachable, punchy 7.0% ABV and a balanced, firm bitterness of approx. 50–55 IBU, delivering saturated hop flavor without the punishing bite of traditional old-school IPAs.

Technical Notes: The defining character of Raised by Wolves comes from a focused hop bill headlined by Equinox (now known as Ekuanot) alongside complementary modern Pacific Northwest varieties like Citra. Driftwood utilizes a grist incorporating malted wheat alongside standard pale two-row to create a supple, pillowy body that suspends hop oils. Heavy whirlpool additions and massive cold-side dry hopping preserve the delicate terpenes and myrcene oils responsible for its signature green pepper, papaya, and citrus aromatics, while keeping astringent tannins at bay.
