Product description
This structured and 'aristocratic' red wine originates from France, within the world-renowned Châteauneuf-du-Pape A.O.C. appellation of the Southern Rhône Valley. Produced by Maison E. Guigal; the legendary winemaking house established in 1946 by Étienne Guigal in Ampuis this cuvée captures the majestic diversity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s unique terroirs. Sourced from choice, low-yielding parcel selections across famous lieux-dits, the vines average 45 to 50 years of age and are planted in the region's classic soil profiles: quartz heat-retaining rolled pebbles (galets roulés), sandy red clay, and crushed limestone scree. The Mediterranean microclimate features intense solar exposure balanced by the cooling, cleansing effects of the fierce Mistral wind, allowing traditional Rhône varieties to achieve complete phenolic maturity while retaining a vibrant, age-worthy natural acidity and an imposing structural frame.
Wine Description
The E. Guigal Châteauneuf-du-Pape presents a luminous, deep ruby-garnet color in the glass with brick and crimson reflections along the rim. Its sensory profile is exceptionally bold, high-toned, and complex, delivering an expansive, precise, and deeply expressive portrait of Southern Rhône terroir. The bouquet opens with a soaring, multi-layered display of ripe black cherry compote, kirsch, and dark plum, seamlessly integrated with complex underlays of dried garrigue herbs (thyme, rosemary, lavender), sweet tobacco leaf, cured meat, licorice, black pepper, and a subtle line of crushed stone minerality. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, muscular, and athletic, showcasing a succulent core of dark berry compote, blood orange peel, dark cocoa nibs, and savory spices. It is characterized by its outstanding inner energy and an incisive, mouthwatering backbone of natural acidity that effortlessly elevates its rich mid-palate fruit density. The mouthfeel is broad, velvety, and linear, framed by firm, fine-grained, and chalky tannins that glide into an extraordinarily long, dry, and savory finish accented by lingering notes of black pepper, iron, and forest floor.
