Product description

El Enemigo Malbec originates from the high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza, Argentina, specifically sourced from the prestigious Adrianna Vineyard in the Uco Valley. Established in 2008, the winery is a joint venture between Alejandro Vigil, chief winemaker at Bodega Catena Zapata, and Adrianna Catena, daughter of Nicolás Catena. Their winemaking philosophy centers on capturing the era when European immigrants first settled in Argentina, aiming to create wines with exceptional refinement and a profound sense of place.

Wine Description

This vintage presents a deep ruby-red colour with violet glints. The nose offers an inviting and complex bouquet of ripe black fruits, plum, and fresh cherry, interwoven with floral notes of lavender and violet, alongside subtle hints of asphalt and toasted wood. On the palate, the wine is full bodied yet precise, featuring a rich and fluid texture with flavours of blackberry, black cherry, pepper, and spice. It is well balanced with refreshing acidity and firm, grippy tannins that lead into an intensely savoury, earth-tinged finish.

Accolades

  • "James Suckling - 95 points"

  • "Vinous - 94 points"

  • "Wine Spectator - 90 points"

Food Pairing

The robust structure and rich fruit profile of this Malbec make it an ideal companion for grilled or roasted red meats, such as steak, lamb, or barbecued ribs. It also pairs excellently with earthy flavours like grilled portobello mushrooms or aged cheeses such as Cheddar and Manchego. For a unique finish, consider pairing it with dark chocolate.
