Product description

El Gran Legado de Vida Tequila Reposado is an artisanal, additive-free tequila produced in Jalisco, Mexico. The spirit has generated significant acclaim among enthusiasts for its unique approach to sourcing and production. Rather than using local estate agave, El Gran Legado de Vida sources single-estate blue Weber agave from Michoacán that is harvested at peak maturity (typically around 7 years old). It is distilled at the highly renowned Cascahuín distillery (NOM 1123) in El Arenal, Jalisco, under the watchful eyes of a facility celebrated for its traditional, low-intervention practices.

Spirit Description

The production process is strictly traditional. The Michoacán agaves are cooked via steam injection in Cascahuín’s traditional masonry stone ovens for three days, followed by an extra day to naturally cool down. After being crushed on a roller mill, the juice undergoes natural fermentation in stainless steel tanks. It is double-distilled—first in a stainless steel alembic still with a copper coil, and secondly in a 100% copper alembic still—bringing the distillate off the still at 55% ABV. It is proofed using Cascahuín’s deep well water, stabilized for 15 to 30 days, and aged for roughly 120 days across a masterful blend of three distinct wood formats: American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, Sherry casks, and French oak ex-Martell VSOP Cognac barrels.

  • Colour: Pale straw yellow or light gold, reflecting its short and careful time in wood.

  • Aroma: Highly complex and welcoming. The nose opens with dominant rich cooked agave and baking spices like cinnamon, layered over soft vanilla, butterscotch, leather, and a grounding petrichor or mineral edge.

  • Palate: Velvet-smooth and round on the entry. It balances a natural sweet agave core with the multi-barrel spice complexity, showcasing notes of light anise, black pepper, honey, clementines, green melon, and just a hint of salty brine.

  • Body: Well-balanced, maintaining a medium viscosity that carries excellent grip and structure without feeling heavy or overly oaky.

  • Finish: Long-lasting and cleanly drying, fading out with lingering sweet squash, melon, black pepper, and tame barrel tannins.

  • ABV: Varied by target bottling profile, standard expressions are typically proofed to 40% or 43% (80 or 86 Proof).
