Product description

This artisanal mezcal originates from Mexico, produced in the Oaxaca region. Crafted under the esteemed El Jolgorio label—founded by the Cortés family, who have been producing mezcal for over six generations—this expression represents one of the rarest offerings in their portfolio. It is made using 100% wild Jabalí agave (Agave Convallis), an extremely difficult wild agave to harvest and ferment due to its high concentration of natural saponins, which cause intense foaming during fermentation. The agave hearts are roasted in traditional underground pit ovens, crushed, fermented in open wooden vats, and double-distilled in small copper pot stills.

Spirit Description

This mezcal presents a crystal-clear, brilliant appearance in the glass. The nose is complex, pungent, and intensely herbal, opening with aromas of fresh mint, eucalyptus, green bell pepper, and damp earth, interwoven with delicate wafts of mezquite wood smoke, citrus zest, and roasted agave sweetness. On the palate, it is full-bodied with a rich, oily texture, delivering vibrant flavours of tart green apples, pine needles, cracked white pepper, and lemongrass, balanced by deep mineral notes, clay, and subtle roasted agave sugar. The finish is long, dry, and exceptionally complex, leaving a lingering trail of herbal brightness, subtle smoke, and earthy minerality. Bottled at an ABV of around 47–52% (depending on the specific batch and palenquero), it offers an uncommonly bright, herbaceous, and powerful mezcal profile.
