Introduction

Erdinger Dunkel is a specialty dark wheat beer from Erdinger Weißbräu, the world’s largest wheat beer brewery based in Erding, Bavaria, Germany. First brewed in 1989 as a birthday gift for the brewery's owner, Werner Brombach, it was launched commercially in 1990 due to its exceptional reception. Like its lighter counterpart, this Dunkelweizen is brewed in strict accordance with the Bavarian Purity Law and undergoes the traditional Bayerische Edelreifung (double maturity) process, maturing in the bottle for several weeks.

Beer Description

This dark wheat beer presents a lustrous, deep chestnut-brown color with a natural cloudiness and a thick, off-white creamy head.

• Aroma: The nose is rich with notes of dark bread, roasted malt, and dark chocolate, accented by subtle fruity hints of plum and the traditional wheat beer signatures of clove and banana.

• Palate: It offers a harmonious symphony of carefully selected dark wheat and barley malts. The flavor is a balance of malty sweetness, nuts, and caramel, with a delicate roasting aroma.

• Profile: It has a full-bodied, smooth, and velvety mouthfeel with tight carbonation. It typically features an ABV of 5.3% and a low bitterness of approximately 14 IBU.

• Technical Notes: The beer is crafted using a blend of dark wheat and barley malts along with Hallertau aroma hops.
