Product description
Far Niente Chardonnay is a benchmark luxury white wine from the Napa Valley AVA in California, United States. Since producing its first vintage of this variety in 1979, Far Niente has established itself as one of California’s absolute icons for premium Chardonnay. Sourced primarily from the cool, rolling hills of the Coombsville region—where the microclimate is heavily influenced by the morning fog of the San Pablo Bay—the estate aims to craft an elegant, complex wine that balances California richness with crisp structural length.
Wine Description
In the glass, it showcases a bright, straw-gold color. The nose is highly expressive and layered, opening with intense aromas of lemon confit, white peach blossom, and green apple, beautifully integrated with elegant hints of vanilla, oak spice, and warm pastry. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rounded, and phenolic, offering a creamy, luxurious texture layered with flavors of grilled citrus, pear, and melon. Stylistically, it epitomizes "American Chardonnay done right," skillfully avoiding a heavy, overly buttery profile by maintaining a striking, bright line of acidity and a mineral hint of wet stone that extends through a long, polished finish.
Varietal Composition: 100% Chardonnay.
Winemaking: Notably, Far Niente famously does not undergo malolactic fermentation. This allows the estate to age the wine in high-quality French oak barrels to achieve a rich, creamy mouthfeel while perfectly preserving the grape's natural, racy acidity.
Food Pairing
The wine’s harmonious balance of opulent texture and clean acidity makes it an exceptionally versatile companion at the dining table. It pairs flawlessly with high-end seafood dishes such as seared sea scallops in lemon-butter sauce, pan-fried trout, or a rich crab-stuffed corn chowder. It also pairs exquisitely with roasted poultry like tarragon chicken breast, or creamy seafood pasta. For a cheese course, its structure beautifully complements premium hard cheeses like aged Parmesan or Manchego. Together, they create an unforgettable dining experience.
