Product description

This structured and 'sophisticated' red wine originates from the United States, within the prestigious Napa Valley region of California, with the vast majority of the fruit farmed in St. Helena and a smaller portion in Rutherford. Frog's Leap was founded in 1981 by John Williams on a historic property that originally served as a commercial frog farm in the late 19th century. Guided today by John and Rory Williams alongside Pablo Polanco, the winery operates under a strict winemaking philosophy focused on freshness, balance, and elegance, consciously keeping alcohol levels restrained to ensure the wine draws its power from sophistication rather than raw heat.

Wine Description

Frog's Leap Zinfandel presents a rich, dense appearance with an intense red-black colour in the glass. Its sensory profile is remarkably deep and 'meaty', opening with an explosive bouquet where intense floral aromas pop out on top, seamlessly layered with notes of intense red-black fruit and a subtle touch of structural warmth. On the palate, the wine is uncommonly dense and significantly more tannic than typical years, showcasing a full-weighted, savoury fruit core. It is characterized by an elegant olive-mineral signature native to Napa terroirs that slices directly through the density, providing a classic balance, a lively tempo, and a beautifully lifted finish.

This expression is crafted in a classic California field blend style, consisting of 85% Zinfandel, 14% Petite Sirah, and 1% Carignane. To achieve a smoother and more gentle extraction of flavours, the winemakers co-fermented the varieties together after cold-soaking the Petite Sirah, which adds vital 'bones' and structure to the final blend. The wine reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 14.5% and was aged using a restrained 5% new oak combined with extensive 60% maturation in small concrete cubes to preserve its absolute freshness. The fruit is 100% certified organic and dry-farmed, rooted in the gravelly loam soils of the White Barn, Molinari, and Gonzalez vineyards.
