Product description

Originating from Italy in the Tuscany region, specifically within the Rosso di Montalcino DOCG appellation, Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Rosso di Montalcino 2024 represents a vibrant, elegant, and approachable expression of Sangiovese. Acquired by the historic Gaja family in 1994, the Pieve Santa Restituta estate spans 27 hectares in the southwestern sub-zone of Montalcino, an area renowned for its gentle breezes, sunny exposures, and rocky clay-limestone soils. While celebrated for its flagship Brunellos, the estate crafts this Rosso di Montalcino from younger vines and select parcels to offer immediate pleasure and varietal purity. Under fifth-generation family leadership, the winemaking philosophy incorporates careful temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel followed by 12 months of maturation in neutral oak casks and concrete vats. The result is a luminous, pure Sangiovese that marries Tuscan sunshine, bright mineral drive, and Gaja's signature winemaking refinement.

Wine Description

The wine presents a brilliant, clear ruby red colour with soft garnet reflections along the rim. An expressive, highly perfumed bouquet opens with noble aromas of fresh red cherry, wild raspberry, red plum, and cranberry, interwoven with delicate notes of dried rose petals, wild thyme, orange peel, leather, and subtle Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, it is medium bodied, silken, and energetic, delivering concentrated flavours of bright red fruit, blood orange zest, and chalky mineral earth, all supported by a bright, mouthwatering spine of natural acidity. Framed by fine-grained, supple tannins and a sleek mid-palate structure, it concludes with a long, persistent finish marked by lingering red berries, subtle spice, and a clean gravelly grip. Composed of 100% Sangiovese, this 2024 release offers an optimal drinking window of 2026–2032. Stylistically, it combines fresh Tuscan charm, youthful energy, and effortless food friendliness.
