Product description
This vibrant and 'joyful' red wine originates from Italy, within the sun-drenched Terre Siciliane I.G.T. designation of Sicily. Produced under the Gergenti label by the Schenk Wine Group, this bottling serves as an approachable, highly authentic tribute to the island's unique native viticulture. Operating under a winemaking philosophy that prioritizes pure fruit expression and immediate charm, Gergenti utilizes low-intervention, certified organic farming techniques. The Frappato grape, historically treated as a minor blending component to add fragrance to bolder varieties like Nero d'Avola, is given center stage here to showcase the refreshing, cooler-climate verticality that can be achieved on the Mediterranean's largest island.
Wine Description
The Gergenti Organic Frappato presents a bright, translucent ruby-red color in the glass. Its sensory profile is exceptionally fresh, aromatic, and perfumed, opening with an inviting bouquet of wild strawberries, cranberries, and fresh blueberries, beautifully layered with fragrant underlays of rose petals, red licorice, and a light touch of crushed black pepper. On the palate, the wine is light-to-medium-bodied, harmonious, and smooth, showcasing a juicy core of crunchy red summer fruits. It is characterized by its outstanding, mouthwatering natural acidity and low, soft tannin profile that mirrors the structure of a cool-climate Pinot Noir. The mouthfeel is sleek, fluid, and highly energetic, driving into a clean, fruit-driven finish highlighted by a delicate hint of savory spice and citrus rind.
This 100% Frappato wine reaches a well-balanced alcohol content (ABV) of 13.0%, preserving an elegant, approachable structure. To protect the grape's volatile, aromatic essential oils from the intense Sicilian sun, the clusters are carefully hand-harvested early in the season during the first weeks of August. The fruit undergoes a gentle, short maceration on the skins for 6 days in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats to extract its vibrant color without pulling bitter seed tannins. Following a complete malolactic fermentation in stainless steel to soften the palate, the wine is bottled fresh and aged for an additional month before commercial release, completely bypassing oak contact to maintain its pristine fruit transparency. Reflecting the estate's strict environmental standards, the fruit is 100% certified organic.
