Product description
The Giacomo Conterno Monfortino Barolo Riserva 2019 represents the absolute pinnacle of traditional Italian winemaking. Originating from Serralunga d'Alba in the Barolo DOCG zone of Piedmont, Monfortino is widely regarded as one of the world's most iconic and age-worthy red wines. Crafted by Roberto Conterno, the 2019 vintage marks a historic return—the first Monfortino produced since 2015. In an extraordinarily rare move, Conterno opted not to release a standard Barolo Francia in 2019, blending the entirety of the estate's premier holdings into this single monumental Riserva release.
Wine Description
In the glass, the wine displays a luminous, deep ruby-garnet hue with subtle orange reflections at the rim. The nose is profoundly layered and ethereal, unveiling high-toned aromas of tart wild cherry, red plum, and dried violet, followed by underlying notes of black tea, crushed granite, savory black truffle, leather, and smoky earth. On the palate, it exhibits immense power wrapped in remarkable finesse. A concentrated fruit core is structured by dense, fine-grained tannins and razor-sharp, salivating acidity that provides vibrant tension. The finish is exceptionally long and resonant, echoing minerals, dried herbs, and dark spice.
