Product description

This fragrant and light to medium bodied red wine originates from Australia, within the cool climate Yarra Valley region of Victoria. Giant Steps was established by Phil Sexton, who named the winery after a John Coltrane album to signify his 'giant step' from Western Australia to the Yarra Valley to pursue ideal sites for Pinot Noir. The winemaking philosophy emphasizes minimal intervention and gravity flow processes to highlight site specific transparency. While the estate's single vineyard wines focus on individual plots, the Circle of Fifths is a harmonious blend or 'chord' of batches from all five of the winery's single site vineyards in the Yarra Valley.

Wine Description

The Giant Steps Circle of Fifths Pinot Noir presents a bright, medium crimson red appearance. The sensory profile is highly aromatic and complex:

  • Aroma: Features a 'perfumed' bouquet of maraschino cherries, wild raspberries, and rose petals, layered with fennel seed spice, lavender, and star anise.

  • Palate: Mid weighted and textured, showcasing pure flavours of red summer berries, blueberries, and cranberry underpinned by bright acidity and 'fuzzy' herbal notes.

  • Finish: Long and elegant with a mineral edge and persistent notes of licorice and dried sage.

This 100% Pinot Noir is crafted using a portion of whole bunch parcels (approximately 20% to 42% depending on the vintage) to add structural perfume and tannin. The wine is matured in French oak barriques (with 15% to 22% new oak) and reached an alcohol content (ABV) of 13.8% for the 2025 release. It is bottled by gravity without fining or filtration and is not certified organic.
