Product description

Introduction

Giuseppe Gorelli Rosso di Montalcino is a red wine from Italy, produced in the Tuscany region and the Rosso di Montalcino D.O.C. appellation. Owner and winemaker Giuseppe Gorelli is a 'winemaker's winemaker' who was born and bred in Montalcino. He worked with the grand master of Sangiovese, Giulio Gambelli, and spent fifteen years at the Consorzio di Brunello di Montalcino before striking out on his own in 2017. His philosophy is minimalist and soil first, believing that quality is made in the vineyard, and his wines are characterized by finesse and elegance.

Wine Description

The wine is 100% Sangiovese. It has an intense ruby red colour, sometimes with garnet reflections. The aromatic profile is complex, offering scents of cherry, red fruit, ripe berries, and mature strawberries. Notes of floral intensity, dried violet, blood orange, spices, liquorice, and cedar also emerge.

It is a medium bodied wine that is often described as overachieving and leaning toward Brunello territory. The palate is dry, harmonious, fresh, and juicy, with flavours of crushed berries, sour cherry, and plum. It has gripping, long tannins that are fine and attractive, and a lively acidity. Stylistically, it is a classic Montalcino wine at its finest, with laser like purity, elegance, and finesse over power. The wine ferments using ambient yeasts and is aged for about ten months in a combination of Slavonian oak casks and stainless steel. The finish is persistent, long, and minerally, with an earthy, saline quality. The ABV is either 13.5%, 14%, or 15% depending on the vintage.
